The Costa Rican Tourism Board (ICT) launched a new tool to boost local tourism during the mid-year vacations. The digital platform “Vamos a Turistear” offers free downloads of its updated collection of tourist guides.

These guides include tour options, accommodations, cuisine, and cultural activities in various areas of the country. According to the ICT, the material is designed for all budgets and facilitates family trip planning.

    Tourist Guides

The collection includes 12 Cultural Tourist Guides and 13 Complementary Mini-Guides. Featured destinations include Guanacaste, Monteverde, the Caribbean, Sarapiquí, Turrialba, Osa, and Golfito, as well as more specific sites such as Tortuguero, Cahuita, La Fortuna, and Bijagua.

Each guide offers information on routes, conservation areas, outdoor activities, and gastronomic recommendations. It also includes a special section with the “10 things every tourist should see and experience” in each region. The guides are available in digital format and can be downloaded for free in the “Tourist Areas” section of the website www.vamosaturistear.com.

    Local Tourism

The ICT explained that these vacations represent an ideal opportunity to rediscover the country and support local communities. According to the study “Vacation Habits of Costa Rican Families,” domestic travel is concentrated during school holidays.

In addition to the digital guides, the ICT organized an activation in shopping centers to distribute discount coupons for accommodations and tours. The activity took place in Oxígeno, Plaza Lincoln, and Terrazas Lindora, where visitors participated in trivia about Costa Rican culture and tourism.

Participants who answered correctly received discounts between 20% and 50% to use during the mid-year vacation. The ICT emphasized that this initiative seeks to promote tourism in less-visited regions and support local tourism associations.

Historic Sites and Viewpoints Open Free of Charge

As part of the campaign, the ICT also invited visitors to the Orosí and Ujarrás viewpoints, as well as the historic ruins of Ujarrás, in Paraíso de Cartago. These spaces will be open free of charge during the holidays, Monday through Sunday between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
